Roma signing Under reveals role Liverpool played in his transfer

The 20-year-old forward was set to join Pep Guardiola’s revolution at City until a call from Roma sporting director Monchi changed things.
Salah’s record move to Anfield meant a place in the Giallorossi’s squad for a player capable of playing on the flanks was open and one they felt the former Basaksehir man could fill.
“Salah went to Liverpool so Roma targeted a replacement. That was the start of the process. Monchi explained that they like to work with you players and that I will be given playing time,” he said, as reported by Turkish Football News.
“It is an honour to play for Roma, I want to be a first team player but I will be competing with El Shaarawy and Perotti.
“I joined Altinordu aged 10, Abdullah Avci put his faith in me and played me as a first team player at Basaksehir and now I am at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
A versatile footballer Under, who has four international caps with Turkey under his belt, is capable of playing on either wing as well as in attacking or as a centre-forward if needs be.
During his time at Basaksehir, whom he joined from Altinordu who’s youth set-up he graduated from, he’d ultimately feature across 43 official matches registering nine goals and creating a further seven for his teammates.
Under’s fee of £11.4m, in the process becoming Roma’s ninth acquisition of the summer, also goes down as the most a Turkish player has left a Süper Lig for.
