Ghana Soccernet reported at the end of the May that Newcastle and Juventus were battling to sign the 25-year-old, who is rated at around £8 million.
That report claimed that the Magpies were willing to meet that valuation but, with no further news, the trail seemed to go a little cold.
Until now perhaps.
Speaking to Football Made in Ghana, the Torino midfielder said his move to an English club is only 90 percent completed.
“Yes, it is very likely I will be moving to England,” he said.

“It has been a dream of mine to play in England and I am very close to achieving this.”
Of course, Newcastle are not the only Premier League club, but they are the only English side to which Acquah has been linked to and Ghana Soccernet also reported that United boss Rafael Benitez wanted him last season.
If true, it is possible that he rejected the North-East club on the basis that they were in the Championship, but the same reasons would not apply now after winning promotion to the top tier last term.
Newcastle have only signed Christian Atsu - a team-mate of Acquah at Ghana - so far this summer.
