Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann believes his side have a great chance of building a stronger side, despite their transfer ban.

Atletico's ban was upheld on appeal and they will not be able to sign any players until January 2018, meaning Griezmann himself will not be allowed to leave the club this summer, and the France international acknowledged the La Liga giants for their role in his development.

He told Canal+, as quoted by Football-Espana: "The club can’t make any signings and it would’ve been a heavy blow for the club that gave me a lot of confidence. Atletico allowed me to be the player I am today.

"After talking to my advisor, the coach and the captains, I decided to stay. We’ll work hard until December to see what happens and if we can sign a few players.

"It’s necessary to remember that another reason why I considered continuing with Los Rojiblancos was their ability to bring in great names and form a competitive team, able to fight with Madrid and Barcelona for trophies.

"It’s something that can’t be seen until the month of December, when Atletico’s sanction ends.”

Griezmann had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the year, with Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho reportedly making the former Real Sociedad man one of his primary target for the summer transfer window.

However, the 26-year-old is set to stay at Atletico for another campaign and will look to help his side challenge teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid for honours next season.
