NFF President Amaju Pinnick Speaks About Super Eagles' Loss To Sudan

The newly elected President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has urged the country’s football fans to preserve patience in the course of the ongoing qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This comes after the Saturday’s loss of the Super Eagles to their Sudanese rivals with the score 0-1. Pinnick however expressed determination not to give up and ensure excellence for the Nigeria game, Premium Times reports. It is none of a secret that Nigerians had expected the victory from the national team on October 11, as Nigeria has never lost to Sudan in the past 47 years. Moreover, it was a must-win match for Stephen Keshi’s men, who are now in serious danger of not qualifying for 2015 AFCON.
“We understand that Nigerians are furious over the fact that the Eagles are last in their pool and are in danger of not qualifying for the finals in Morocco. Everyone feels bad about this, including the members of NFF executive committee. I just want to call on Nigerians to have patience. This new board is determined to do things differently. We are passionate about the Nigeria game and what we want to achieve is build a sustainable football culture for our dear country.” The NFF head focused on football target, which his administration would set in general, for all competitions with involvement of the Nigerian team. “Our target is to ensure that Nigeria finishes in pole position at major football competitions in Africa and the world, and we believe this is achievable through hard work, diligence, strategic planning and the support of everyone.” He lamented however that the highly respected African team had to struggle for simply qualifying for the tournament.
“It is embarrassing that as reigning champions, we are struggling in the qualifying series, with only one point out of a possible nine. It is an awful output. However, we want our people to be patient and not stampede the Federation to take knee-jerk decisions that will backfire in the end. We are on top of the situation and will take decisions that are in the best interest of Nigeria football.” Speaking after the defeat, which came as a serious disappointment not only for Nigerians, but also for the Super Eagles, the team’s head coach Stephen Keshi and the victorious Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama apologized to the supporters for the game outcome.
