Chelsea and Manchester United want to activate Barcelona star's release clause

Chelsea are considering a move for Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The Blues are eager to bring in reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month, but they face competition from Manchester United and Juventus for the Spanish right back.

The trio of clubs are all interested in activating Roberto's €40m release clause this summer, according to Catalan publication Sport, after Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde moved Roberto to an unfamiliar, more central role this summer.

The report claims that any of the three clubs would be willing to double Roberto's current wages at Barca, and he may be willing to leave if he is guaranteed regular gametime.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is eager to bring in new wingbacks this summer, after using Victor Moses on the right side of the Blues' formation last season.
