Barcelona president announces record revenues after Neymar sale – but fans are turning on Josep Bartomeu
The winger moved to PSG last week for £200 million (€222 million) with the transfer going ahead despite Barcelona disagreeing with Neymar’s decision to leave.
Barcelona today announced record revenues of €708 million (£640.28 million) for 2016/17.
Bartomeu went on to claim that the fee that Barcelona received for Neymar will be “administered with prudence, rigour and serenity.”
“The 222 million euros that we received for Neymar Jr will be administered with prudence, rigour and serenity.
“People admire us as a club. You, our supporters clubs, can feel admired wherever you go.
“Leo Messi, the best player ever, shall continue to lead this team.
“Our financial strength is reflected by the 708 million euros of revenue in 2016/17, an all-time record.”
Despite the staggering fee that they received for him, the departure of Neymar has left a significant gap in Barcelona’s team with the new season rapidly approaching and it appears that the club will have to act quickly in the transfer market to address this issue.
Meanwhile, many Barcelona fans have grown frustrated with Bartomeu and have called for him to resign.
