Kevin De Bruyne is better than Messi and Ronaldo - Cottee
De Bruyne has been in scintillating form for Premier League table-toppers Manchester City this season.
The Belgian has scored twice, against Chelsea and Arsenal, and set up his team-mates on six other occasions.
Cottee admits De Bruyne has a long way to match the achievements of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
But he says he is ahead of the superstar duo on current form.
De Bruyne, I think on current form, has probably been the best player in the world
Tony Cottee on Man City star Kevin de Bruyne
“I think some of them are superstars now,” Cottee said of Manchester City.
“(Sergio) Aguero is one of the top, top strikers in the world.
“De Bruyne, I think on current form, has probably been the best player in the world.
“I’m not saying overall, I know what Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo etc, Neymar have done. But on current form he has been absolutely sensational. David Silva, I’ve always been a great fan.
“I think the difference this year is they’ve got a goalkeeper in goal for a start, that helps.
“Ederson has been fantastic, Kyle Walker is a good signing, I’m so pleased for John Stones.
“He seems to be his main man, he’s in there, he’s playing fantastically well.
“Fabian Delph as well, come in from the cold, playing at left-back, so defensively they’ve shut up shop.”
