Don Balon--Man United eye £75m move for La Liga superstar.
According to Don Balon, Manchester United will move for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
Despite being just 21 years of age, Asensio is already one of the most valuable players in European football. The Spain international scored 10 times in 38 appearances for Real Madrid during the 2016-17 campaign, and has already netted six goals in 17 appearances this term.
The attacker only signed a new long-term contract with the Spanish and European champions in September, but according to Don Balon, Asensio’s deal includes a release clause of £75m, which has attracted the interest of Man United. It seems unlikely that Asensio would be interested in leaving Real Madrid at this stage of his career, but there is no smoke without fire, and Man United certainly have the credentials to entice the brilliant attacker to Old Trafford at the end of the season. It could be argued that any player that leaves Real Madrid is stepping down a level, but Man United are one of the few clubs in world football that can match up to Los Blancos.
Should the Red Devils activate the £75m release clause, it would be up to Asensio to decide whether he wanted to try his hand in the Premier League.According to Don Balon, Asensio is a little concerned with his lack of starts this season. Indeed, the Spaniard has actually only played 45 minutes of Champions League football this term.Real Madrid might be the holders of the Spanish title and European crown, but Zinedine Zidane’s side have struggled in recent weeks, and it promises to be a fascinating few weeks at the Bernabeu. There is no question that Real Madrid will be desperate to keep Asensio, but it would be up to the player if Man United were prepared to spend £75m next summer.
