West Brom and Leicester City join Championship club to sign Michael Carrick

The 36 year-old midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has only played once this season in a League Cup game against Burton Albion. He is being linked with a move away in January.

Aston Villa are being linked with a move for the experienced midfielder. Steve Bruce managed to lure Chelsea legend John Terry to Villa Park in the summer and could do the same with Michael Carrick. The Midlands club also added experienced players such as Chris Samba and Glenn Whelan to their squad in the summer too.

Michael Carrick started his career with West Ham United before signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 2004. After impressing for Spurs he was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for Manchester United in 2006. He has been there ever since and has played over 300 games for them. He has won the Premier League five times, the League Cup three times and the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League all once.

Carrick is also an England international. He would be a shock signing if Aston Villa can pull it off. However, if West Brom and Leicester are in for him as well that could dent Villa’s chances of signing him. You would expect he would like to stay in the top flight but you never know, could Carrick fancy a promotion push?
