Chelsea blasted for selling Nemanja Matic

Chelsea have once again been blasted for their transfer dealings, this time by Tony Gale, who was speaking on Sky Sports and noted that the club have made a huge mistake selling Nemanja Matic.
The midfielder has been a key player for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side so far this season – and United are of course sitting at the top of the table, level on points with neighbours Manchester City, who just comprehensively beat Chelsea.

Gale was asked about the player he thought had been the best midfielder so far this season, and said to Sky Sports: “I’ll go for Matic because simply he’s made the biggest difference.
“Obviously there are more creative central midfield players around and everybody will go to the flare ones.
“But in terms of the importance to United, he’s the one for me.
“And believe it or not, although he does give that defensive solidity to them in front of the back four, he can see a pass as well.
Because he’s six-foot four, maybe a little bit gangly, people don’t think he’s got that ability, but he has.
“So for me, it has to be Matic.
“He’s made the big difference for Man United.
“Why Chelsea sold him, I haven’t got a clue.”

Another player Chelsea have been criticised for selling is Kevin De Bruyne, who came back to haunt them when they took on Man City, scoring the winner and dictating play throughout the game.
Chelsea also let Romelu Lukaku leave for Everton – another player who is now in Manchester and while Antonio Conte made it clear how unhappy he was this summer with the transfer dealings, it seems that the board should be asked serious questions about why these players weren’t given a proper chance or at the very least, sold to clubs that would not be Chelsea’s domestic rivals.
