Rohr thrilled with Uyo choice

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has set his sights on a win over South Africa in Saturday's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Uyo.

Rohr acknowledges that the clash with the 1996 Afcon champions will be tough but is hoping to mastermind a win for Nigerian over their bitter rivals.

The trainer also spoke about his delight at the choice of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo and took the time to time to discuss the two players still expected at the 'Eagles'nest'.

"Yes, we are happy to be here in Uyo. We like this place," Rohr told journalists in Uyo on Tuesday.

"We won our last (two) games here so I hope this (game versus South Africa) will be a third victory.

"We are 22 today. Tomorrow, we'll be 24.

"We'll start our training immediately.

"The two players (who will join us) tomorrow are Ahmed Musa and Elderson (Echiejile).

"If (Nigeria) is to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), It will be a fantastic adventure.

Rohr concluded by discussing the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the last two editions of his Afcon as well as his decision to snub China-based stars in his latest selection.

"We were only spectators at the last again in Gabon and now, we want to be there also.

"We will start (the race to reach the 2019 Afcon) on Saturday against the best team in the group (South Africa).

"They have not lost a game in the last two years, since 2015 and I hope we'll be able to do it (beat South Africa).

"The reason for that is that it is very difficult to monitor the players in China.

"One of the is injured and that's our captain, John Mikel Obi.

"I'm satisfied with the young players we have now and that's why we are working with the group we have now," he said.
